On Friday, May 3, 2024, Naymote Partners for Democratic Development, a leading civil society institution committed to promoting accountable democratic governance, political accountability, and civil engagement in Liberia and beyond, wrapped up a one-day visit to the National Road Fund (NRF) office. The purpose of the visit was to track the 100-day deliverables set by H.E. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, particularly those related to the NRF.
Mr. Joshua D. Cleon, the Deputy Program Director, and Crystal Martina Marvey, the acting Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and Program Assistant, led the Naymote team in extensive engagement with Mrs. Joseta Neufville-Wento, the Manager of the NRF. Mrs. Neufville-Wento welcomed Naymote and provided detailed information on the NRF’s achievements within the 100-day timeframe.
Mrs. Neufville-Wento highlighted the ongoing audits by both the General Auditing Commission (GAC) and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) during the meeting. She also mentioned the review and development of administrative procedures for the NRF’s timely reporting of activities and fund generation, which is pending NRF’s board approval.
Mrs. Neufville-Wento also told Naymote that the board approved levies on petroleum imported into the country rather than lifting at Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company (LPRC), which makes it easier to track the fuel levy from the NRF office.
Mr. Cleon commended the NRF for its efforts to promote openness on short notice. The meeting concluded with Mrs. Wento expressing the NRF’s commitment to partnering with Naymote to promote greater transparency and accountability.
