Partnering with the NRF are the University of Liberia, the Association of Architects, the Engineering Society of Liberia, and private construction companies. Today’s press conference held in the conference room at the NRF office on 9th street Sinkor highlighted that the program is a comprehensive mentorship and internship program aimed at nurturing young talents in different technical disciplines which will serve as a pool for technical professionals.

The National Road Fund of Liberia, established to finance road, and bridge maintenance, and the management of all associated programming and planning of such activities across Liberia, recognizes the crucial role that mentorship and practical experience play in shaping the future of Liberia’s infrastructural sector. By collaborating with academic institutions, professional bodies and key partners, the program seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, thereby empowering aspiring professionals to contribute effectively to Liberia’s road development initiatives.

The mentorship and internship program will provide undergraduate and graduate students from various academic institutions with valuable opportunities to gain hands-on experience in road construction and maintenance as well as in finances. Participants will have the chance to work alongside seasoned professionals, gaining insight into various aspects of infrastructure development, project management, and engineering practices as well as business management.

Speaking at the program’s launch ceremony, the CEO of the National Road Fund of Liberia expressed her enthusiasm about this collaborative initiative. She said, “It is my hope that this program provides the opportunity for young students to practically improve their technical skills and gain workplace experience while contributing to the national development process. “We firmly believe in the potential of Liberian youth and this program will shape the future of Liberia’s development, “she added.

Whilst the President of the University of Liberia, Prof. Dr. Julius J. S. Nelson Jr, highlighted that “the mentorship program was an opportunity to close the gap in our knowledge provision of skills and vis-à-vis opportunities for students who are getting ready to graduate or who have just graduated.

Meanwhile, the Association of Architects and the Engineering Society of Liberia, as esteemed professional bodies in their respective disciplines, will provide guidance and support to the mentees, sharing their expertise and insights. Additionally, private construction companies will work with interns on various project sites, enabling students to gain first-hand exposure to real-world projects and challenges.

The mentorship and internship program is expected to provide a platform for aspiring engineers, business students, architects, and other infrastructure professionals to develop their skills, expand their professional networks, and acquire practical knowledge that will contribute to their future careers. By fostering a culture of mentorship and collaboration, the National Road Fund of Liberia aims to create a sustainable pipeline of skilled individuals who can contribute to Liberia’s development and enhance the overall quality of roads in Liberia.

As the program gains traction, it is anticipated that participants will not only benefit from the experience but also contribute fresh ideas and innovative approaches to the road construction and maintenance sector. Through this collaborative effort, the National Road Fund of Liberia and its partners are laying the foundation for a brighter and more prosperous future in which Liberia’s infrastructure is developed sustainably, meeting the needs of its citizens

The mentorship and internship program is set to commence immediately in August, with applications being accepted from interested candidates. It is hoped that this initiative will serve as a catalyst for positive change in the infrastructure sector, fostering a new generation of skilled professionals who will play a pivotal role in shaping Liberia’s road network for years to come.
