Mrs. Joseta Neufville-Wento, Manager of the National Road Fund, joined experts in Climate Change, Public Financing, Institutional and Governance, Data Survey, the AFERA/ARMFA Executive Committee, to discuss the Sub-Saharan Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The SSATP Program, comprised of consultants hired by the European Union to conduct studies, aims to revolutionize road maintenance financing across Africa through economic and financial reforms. This study will launch survey implementation across 15 target countries, present inception phase results, and establish coordination mechanisms with donors and Development Finance Institutions.
This effort aligns with the African Road Maintenance Funds Association’s (ARMFA) priorities and comes at a critical time when Africa faces disproportionate road safety challenges, accounting for 24% of global traffic fatalities despite having less than 4% of the world’s vehicles.
The program seeks to address systemic issues in road fund management while promoting sustainable financing models that can enhance infrastructure resilience and safety standards across the continent, particularly through data-driven approaches to road construction.
