NRF Manager Attends the 12th IRF Caribbean Regional Congress

Monrovia, Liberia, August 1, 2024: Mrs. Joseta Neufville-Wento, Manager of the National Road Fund of Liberia, is currently attending the International Road Federation’s Caribbean Regional Congress in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

According to a dispatch from San Juan, the congress, which commenced on July 30th and will end on August 2nd, 2024, brings together key policymakers and stakeholders in the road and transport infrastructure sector to share insights, innovations, and experiences.

The theme for this year’s congress, “Many roads one Caribbean“, addresses some of the forefront challenges in the road sector. The congress aims to improve road safety, enhance infrastructure resilience, and advance sustainable road training, as well as optimizing payment systems and financial management for road fund accounts.

Mrs. Wento is accompanied by the Comptroller and Accountant General of Liberia, Mr. Edwood Netty, who seeks to understand how road funds work and various payment processes as a co-signer to all Road Fund accounts. Their participation underscores Liberia’s commitment to applying best practices and learning from international experiences.

Mrs. Wento’s attendance is particularly focused on finding sustainable solutions for road construction and maintenance problems faced by the road sector while ensuring value for money. Given the increasing mortality rate from road users, global concerns are focused on improving road safety through utilization of software for decision makers, AI technology, and other strategic measures to keep all road users safe. Additionally, with the recent extreme climatic events to include flooding, which undermines pavement life span, leads to unstable soil, etc. have negative impacts on road safety. Other concerns like dust pollution have been discussed extensively with applicable low-cost solutions are highly recommended to reduce pollution along our network. She aims to connect the MPW and MOT with leading investors in these areas to provide solutions to our age-old problems. Additionally, she is keen on enhancing Liberia’s road infrastructure by continuously improving the capacities of engineers and non- engineers in the sector.
