National Road Fund of Liberia
President George Manneh Weah has expressed his satisfaction with the National Road Fund’s contribution to the broader infrastructure goals of his administration.
This statement was made by President Weah on Tuesday, January 30, 2023, in the joint sessions of the 54th Legislative during the state of the Nation address. President. Weah stated that since the National Road Fund began its operations, the NRF has proven that it is essential to the Government of Liberia’s efforts to improve road connections across Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works
According to President Weah, “Upon my ascendancy to the Presidency in 2018, one of my Administration’s immediate actions in the road sector was to operationalize the National Road Fund office of Liberia.” The results of this action may now be seen as having “generated significant benefits for the road sector and has enabled the effective implementation of our roads program for our dear cherished country.”
“I am proud to reveal that, since my incumbency, a total of 198 km of community roads in 7 counties have been completed, with over 75 km ongoing”. President Weah praised “Liberians who pay their fuel levies from every gallon of gasoline or fuel oil they purchase; we continue to expand this program in maintaining our existing network and the construction of new community roads”.In addition to this, he stated that Road connectivity remains the fulcrum of his administration.
Along with the 4.2 kilometers of Soul Clinic Road, the 2.1 kilometers of Peace Island to 540 Community Road, the 0.6 kilometers of Fanti Town Road, and the 2.3 kilometers of New Georgia to Gulf Road were listed by the President in his annual address on Tuesday. Construction of the 5.4 kilometers of road from Johnsonville to Mount Barclay is expected to be finished by June of 2023. The construction of the 12 kilometers of Johnsonville Turning Point to Mount Coffee Road is also currently ongoing.
In addition to the aforementioned, the President named the beginning of the 1.5 kilometers of River View Road to Hotel Africa Road, the Kissi Camp to GSA Road which is approximately 300 meters, the layout and ongoing paving of 8.7 kilometers of the streets in Kakata City, and the announcement that the government has resumed construction of the 3.2 kilometers of Bali Island access road.
