How the program works
The program will recruit, train, and place twenty (20) young university graduates and graduating seniors for a total of fourteen (14) weeks at private construction companies, NGOs, and government-related agencies.
- Each intern will be provided with a computer.
- Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of two hundred United States dollars ($200.00).
The host institution will be responsible for the provision of a conducive work space and safety gears for field operations.
Phases
Three-phase structure
The internship is designed in three phases from orientation through placement to reflection and evaluation.
Phase 1: Orientation
Two weeksThis phase entails basic job readiness training, communicating the rules governing conduct, mechanism for feedback from place of assignment, and the resources that will be made available to the interns.
Phase 2: Placement
Twelve weeksDesignated partners will be communicated with the name of each intern for placement. Interns undergo twelve weeks of mentorship and job exposure, paired with senior-level personnel specialized in one of the S.T.E.A.M. fields at the organization—forging a mentee-mentor relationship for career coaching and growth. Interns perform tasks designated by their supervisor or mentor while adhering to safety rules.
Phase 3: Reflection and Evaluation
Closing periodAssigned interns are required to write and submit a reflection paper capturing their experiences at the assigned institution (work culture, resources made available through coaching, description of responsibilities), highlights of key moments of successes and challenges, and aspirations for career growth and further capacity building. An evaluation report will also be received from the host institution or survey about the intern's performance and general comportment during their stay. Certificates of completion will be presented to interns.
