Driving Towards better Roads: MPW and NRF joint road project inspections

In a proactive move towards enhancing ongoing road projects, the Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee of the Road Fund, Mr. Roland Lafayette Giddings, and his team of deputy and assistant ministers, along with the Manageress of the National Road Fund, Madam Joseta Neufville-Wento, visited several road projects across Montserrado County yesterday, March 28, 2024.

According to Min. Giddings, the collaborative effort aimed to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and standards of road construction as outlined in the contractual agreements between the Government of Liberia and construction contractors. Additionally, he added that it is intended to ensure the effective utilization of the allocated funds and the timely progress of the projects.

The road projects visited were the Free Port-St. Paul Bridge and the intricate network of roads in Johnsonville Turning Point, including Mount Barclay Road, Small St. Michael, Banjor Community, Soul Clinic Road, Nickley Town Community Road, and Peace Island.

Mrs. Wento highlighted that, working hand in hand, the MPW and NRF are not only ensuring value for money disbursed, but also the delivery of high-quality road works, the timely completion of projects, and their effectiveness in resolving all bottlenecks with the funding required to complete them.

Beyond the technical aspects, according to Mrs. Wento, the site visits also provided an opportunity to engage with the local communities, ensuring that their needs and concerns are taken into account during the construction process. “This inclusive approach not only promotes community ownership of the projects but also paves the way for sustainable development and long-term benefits for all residents,” she added.
